Earlier this month Nedgroup Investments released a notification regarding the appointment of Laurium Capital as the investment manager of the Nedgroup Investments Growth Fund. This follows their notification in March 2020 regarding the closure of the incumbent investment manager’s business in June 2020. We released a note on this which can be found here.
Following a review of potential replacement managers by Nedgroup's "Best of Breed" team, they have signed an agreement with Laurium Capital to be the investment manager of the fund. While we rate both the Laurium business and South African equity process positively (rating report can be found here) we need to assess the mandate and implementation differences for this fund relative to their house-view equity process. We therefore retain the “Under Review” status of the fund until we can spend time with Laurium to assess the ultimate merits of the offering. It is important for investors to note that there are material differences in investment mindset, process and philosophy between the existing manager Electus and the replacement manager Laurium. Investors should therefore expect changes to the current portfolio structure to be implemented by Laurium when they assume control of the mandate.
