We have recently concluded our review of the Sarasin IE Multi Asset Dynamic Fund and retained our Tier 3 rating.  

Sarasin is a well-managed business with relatively high levels of employee ownership, although there are some elements of the business structure where we have subtle concerns, overall, we are comfortable with the business.

We have seen some change in the lead portfolio manager role, with Henning Meyer taking over from David Palmer, however, we are mostly comfortable with the investment team, although on the fixed income side we feel they are somewhat under-resourced.

Apart from these concerns, our primary concern with the fund is that we continue to see little evidence of value add from asset allocation and stock selection over meaningful periods. We would have expected to find more evidence of this, especially considering the stylistic tailwinds that the fund has experienced over the last decade.

Ultimately, we feel that our business concerns, minor team concerns, and the lack of evidence supporting the investment process justify a Tier 3 rating on this fund.
