Manager Research
all members of our manager research team have over ten years of investment experience.
Adrian Zetler has resigned from Coronation. His most recent role was as a multi-counsel[1] portfolio manager on the Coronation Equity and Coronation Balanced Plus funds. The multi-counsel investment approach allows for the development of portfolio managers as part of a decision making team, and also facilitates simple succession when there are team changes or departures.
Adrian joined Coronation as an analyst in 2009 and became a portfolio manager on the houseview portfolios in 2015. As he was an up and coming portfolio manager growing in seniority within the team, this is a significant setback and will be a frustrating loss for Coronation.
Adrian’s slice of the Equity and Balanced funds has been reallocated between the remaining portfolio managers on the funds (CIO Karl Leinberger and Sarah-Jane Alexander). His research responsibilities will be absorbed by the existing team. Key stocks such as Naspers, Prosus and Tencent are already covered by Coronation’s global emerging markets team, who have a substantial experience base within China and technology shares. The reallocation is in progress and will be completed in the coming days.
The remaining team is still broad and experienced with Coronation’s CIO Karl Leinberger the key portfolio manager. Within that context we remain confident and have retained Tier 1 ratings on the Balanced and Equity funds.
[1] Coronation follows a multi-counsellor process whereby three portfolio managers are responsible for managing the stock selection and asset allocation in a slice of their portfolios.
