Prudential have had several changes to senior members of the equity team over the last two years. Long standing equity portfolio manager Craig Butters started a three-year sabbatical in March 2019. Rehana Khan, who was Head of Equity Research and a strong analyst and mentor to the next generation of equity analysts left Prudential for Ninety One in September last year. Finally, Prudential’s Head of Equity, Johny Lambridis announced his relocation overseas early in 2020. The business had quite a stable investment team in the past, so the cumulative departures from the team were concerning and resulted in the downgrading of their equity capabilities to Tier 2 in February 2020. These changes also contributed to the downgrading of their multi asset capabilities to Tier 2 at the same time.
The business has taken significant steps to bolster the investment team and create capacity and breadth across their capabilities over the last few months. We have summarised the changes to the investment team in the table below:

These changes are positive in creating capacity across the various investment teams from a research perspective and in creating depth and succession in the multi asset funds specifically, with the promotion of Sandile and Anthea. We will continue to monitor how the new team members settle into their new roles over time.
