Manager Research
all members of our manager research team have over ten years of investment experience.
Coronation has announced that Mark le Roux will retire from his portfolio management responsibilities in the fixed income team at the end of February 2019. Mark has been instrumental in building up Coronation’s fixed income capability over the last 14 years. He was Head of Fixed Income before handing over to Nishan Maharaj in November 2016 and is currently a co-portfolio manager on the Coronation Strategic Income and Global Strategic Income funds.
We have been anticipating Mark’s departure from the day to day management of the funds for some time, and Coronation has managed the succession process well. The fixed income team under Nishan’s leadership consists of 11 investment professionals with an average of 13 years of investment experience, so there is sufficient breadth and depth to manage the capability. The team is also well integrated into the broader Coronation investment team with Karl Leinberger as CIO.
While Mark is stepping back from the funds, he will still be involved with the team as a member of the credit committee, a mentor to the junior team members and as a sounding board for Nishan. His continued involvement is a positive.
We are comfortable with this handover and therefore we retain the ratings on these funds:
- Coronation Strategic Income – Tier 1
- Coronation Bond – Tier 1
- Coronation Global Strategic Income – Tier 2
